Welcome!
Refuge Toesca, owned by Torino Section of Italian Alpine Club and managed by the U.E.T. (Unione Escursionisti Torino) subSection , is located in the Susa Valley, municipality of Bussoleno. It is situated at 1710 m above sea level, at Pian del Ròc, in the Rio Gerardo lateral valley. It is only reachable on foot, in about 1 hour and a half from the locality of Travers a Mont, in the municipality of San Giorio di Susa.
It is then a classic destination for day trips but also a stopping or rest place for trekkings inside Parco Naturale Orsiera-Rocciavrè.
The managing of the refuge is made with the full respect of energy saving principles, by reducing and recycling the amount of waste, by avoiding the utilisation of throwaway products and by choosing Ecolabel/FSC certified products. In 2005 the refuge obtained the European Ecolabel certification for the tourist hosting service.
In the preparation of our menus we prefer local products and
the choice of biological food.
In 2007 the refuge joined the "Paniere dei Prodotti tipici"
project of Provincia di Torino.
Since September 2007 the refuge offers a high speed satellite Internet access, within the WI-PIE - "Internet veloce nei rifugi montani" project . It is then possible for our guests to freely connect their laptops or palmtops to the Internet.
The refuge
The refuge dates back to 1920 and since then it has been rebuild and
made more comfortable, lastly in 1998. It has a dining room on the ground floor with 48 places. On the first floor there is the sleeping area with a dormitory of 24 places and some little rooms with 2-3 places each, for a total amount of 31 places. Outside the refuge, on its southern part, there are some wooden tables and seats, where it is possible to have a picnic when the refuge is closed. On the northern side a fountain is always active, except in the winter when the refuge is normally closed. The refuge doesn't have a winter emergency room.
Excursions
Refuge
Toesca is located inside the Orsiera-Rocciavrè
Natural
Park. It is then possible to find destinations in the surroundings
for excursions that can be made all over the year.
In the summer-autumn period there are
plentiful excursions
to be made in one day but also recommended
are the
trekkings along some of the nicest pathways inside the Park.
Also during the winter and in the spring the area of the Park and the surroundings of the refuge can be visited. It is not necessary to be X-country skiers...lately the rediscovery of snowshoes permits to more and more people to join the alpine environment during what is probably the nicest period of the year. Reaching the refuge in the winter is then surely possible, accordingly to the weather conditions and the snow coverage, both on foot with the snowshoes that with skies.
